
Women's Month 2008
Cy-Fair College will host a three-week long Women’s Month this March to celebrate, teach and empower women. Windows on the World, part of an effort to promote cultural activities on campus, will sponsor the Women’s Month 2008. All events are open to the public and will be held at the Barker Cypress campus.
March 2008 - Essay Contest (Chair Person - Idolina Hernandez)
Students will submit essays on topic concerning "Experiences as a woman in college" Essays will be reviewed and winners will read essays during closing ceremony.
March 3 - Opening Ceremonies (Chair Person - DeEadra Albert - Green)
11:00 am - 1:00 pm. in the Student Commons
Fashion Show exhibiting new trends in Professional Dress. Cy-Fair College Dance Team will give a performance. Radio Personality, Tony Styles, will emcee and DJ event. KICK OFF to the start of activities for the month.
March 6 - Women's Health Fair (Co Chair Persons - Victoria Van Wie & Ronnie Nespeca)
Library first floor & Student Commons
There will be information on many women's health issues in the library and student commons. Most materials will be able to be taken home to share with friends and family. Topics will include osteoporosis, heart health, nutrition, gynecological care, pregnancy, aging, diabetes, girl's health, exercise, insurance and more.

Woman Tower - Display of visual print images of artwork arranged like a bulletin board composed of pyramid made of ironing boards. The pyramid will contain clippings of images and stories of women who have empowered themselves

March 4 - Pink Ribbon Project (Chair Person - Sandra Harvey)
12 noon - 2 pm On the Main Stage Theatre
The Pink Ribbons Project: "Dancers in Motion against Breast Cancer". Following The Pink Ribbon Danceers performance will be presentations from a breast cancer survivor who will discuss the early warning signs of breast cancer.

March 17 - March 27 - Silent Witness Silhouette (Chair Persons - Angelica Sutton & Rose Botkin)
The Silent Witness Exhibit will be on display on the second floor of the Learning Commons Building. This exhibit is a poignant reminder to all of us of the women who are killed by domestic violence. Each silhouette represents a woman killed by domestic violence; because their voices have been silenced they are now Silent Witnesses. We wish to thank Katy Christian Ministries Crisis Center for the use of this exhibit.
March 17 - March 20 - free Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) workshop (Chair Person - Jim Baylor)
This training for women is to develop and enhance the options of self-defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked. Sandra and Jim Baylor, with R.A.D. Texas Education, Inc. will lead this training session addressing women's safety education and personal empowerment. Please email Baylor@rice.edu for reservations or go to radtexas.com to register.

Discuss the women's movement, health care, economics, literature, activism, slavery, female genital mutilation, and the various permutations feminism has undergone in the last 200 years. Students will read original writing on women's issues in an international context.

This Cy-Fair College's Readers Theatre is for mature audiences only. Author Eve Ensler beckons theatre-goers to reconnect with the "unnamed, untamed and unknown" down there. The sketch topics range from mundane yet funny (menstruation, gynecological exams, thong underwear and moaning styles) to truly poignant (rape, genital mutilation and their distressing statistics).
