  • As we prepare for each semester, we will be taking instructional software request via the Software Installation Request Form (S.I.R.F). This form is to be completed and turned in to your Division Coordinator when you turn in your semester text book order. This will also inform the IT department of what software you need loaded on the computers in a particular computer lab.
  • IT Customer Satisfaction Survey Results - Feedback from our customers through April 20, 2008.
  • Reminder - For security, when you step away from your computer, or a student walks in your office unexpectedly, simply follow these steps to lock your PC:
    • Click the (Ctrl + Alt + Delete ) keys on your keyboard and choose LOCK COMPUTER .
    • Your Machine will not be "unlocked" until you press the (Ctrl + Alt + Delete ) keys again and enter your password. You can have all of your applications open when you lock your PC. The only thing visible is the background image on your computer desktop.
  • TEMP_STORE
Please note that in preparation for the start of the new semester, all files and folders stored in the TEMP_STORE folder in the “G” drive on faculty/staff computers and the “T” drive on classroom and computer lab computers will be PERMANENTLY deleted Friday 11 January 2008 at 10PM
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Deployment
Deployment of the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) on all LSCS-owned desktops and laptops began April 1, 2008. Many of you have requested that we defer this installation until the end of the semester. If your system was deferred or not updated during the building-by-building sweep, please contact the Service Desk at x3948 or send an email to cfservicedesk@lonestar.edu to schedule a time for a team member to visit with you. If you have a laptop, feel free to call or bring the unit to the Service Desk for the upgrade. The installation process varies between one to four hours depending on whether additional preventative maintenance or enhancements are needed for your computer.
  • Microsoft Products for Home Use

For those requesting a copy of the software for home use, please coordinate with your Dean or Director. Once the Service Desk receives the approved form we will make every effort to provide the CD with individual licenses within one business day. Please keep in mind there are a number of restrictions, and not everyone qualifies for the program per our Enterprise Microsoft Agreement.

TechNotes

Now that the school year is underway, there are a few technology tips that need to be brought to everyone's attention. These tips pertain to the Barker Cypress Campus.

  • If you have any audio/video or IT requests or concerns, please call the Service Desk at 39IT (3948).
  •  If you see an IT tech on campus, please try not to stop them - they are probably working on another problem. Please call the Service Desk with your questions or request.
  • All supervisors need to fill out an IT Request Form and turn it in to the Service Desk before a new employee arrives on campus. This will allow IT to get their phone and computer ready before their first day of employment. Before they can get their computer, they must have email set up. They can do this by coming to the Service Desk (TECH 120) and using our computer stations to set up their email account.
