This collection of Huipils (pronounced wee-peel-ehs) represents a dying art from the traditions of the Mayan people. The huipils are both artistic and functional. The individuality of the garments is reflective of the regions from which the pieces originate. This has become more historically significant than the artist who created them. Huipils are created to be worn and many of them have been. Because these pieces have been used they become reflective of not only the creativity of the Mayans, but they also represent a culture, a place and a lifestyle.
The huipils are presented by Jesus Cantu Medel M.Ed and Museo Guadalupe Aztlan in Houston.
